The Democracy of the Koina proposes the return of the citizen to the centre of political life. The Koina — communities of citizens — direct and continuous participation, the possibility of recalling representatives, the Senate, the Representative Body, and the institutional use of modern technology together form a coherent proposal for re-establishing democracy on a human scale.
This is not a nostalgic return to the past, but a creative use of the historical communal tradition, with the aim of developing a democracy founded on participation, accountability, transparency, and freedom.
The book is complemented by an essay on the relationship between Church and State, with freedom and the integrity of institutions as their common point of reference.
